Free Maya Rig - Knight Spider
Knight Spider is one of the most incredible free Maya rigs available. The concept design and 3D asset was created by Rookie Alumni, Mehmet Tayfur Türkmenoğluwe. Knight Spider was then handed over the pros at Dr Reels to build out this production quality rig that will take your portfolio to a new level.
The rig comes with a whole bunch of free training videos on YouTube, and we have a dedicated Discord channel setup to get help.

Knight Spider Animation Contest
What good would it be to release a killer new rig, if students didn't have a place to show off their skills. This is a massive contest and runs until early next year so there is plenty of time to drop this into a class of yours.
Contest Brief
Knight Spider is standing in a bind-pose right now, and looking a little sad. We want you to bring him to life! Your brief is to create a 10 second performance video or dynamic poses to really show off his attitude and emotions
Categories for all
To make things easier, we have split the contest into two main Categories which are outlined below:
- Beginner - Poses - open to beginners that are not comfortable animating yet. This one is for you, we want to see your best poses for Spider King.
- Advanced - Action - open to members that are comfortable bringing Spider King to life and creating a performance.
